Just outside Yellowstone National Park in Montana is Hebgen Lake. If it’s a sunny and cloudless day, the different hues of blue are astonishing.
On the shores of the lake, in certain places, you can still see the aftereffects of the 1959 earthquake that hit the area. The quake dammed up the Madison River when the side of Madison Canyon slid down and created Earthquake Lake further downstream from Hebgen Lake. A total of 28 people lost their lives due to the quake.
