Hanauma Bay on Oahu in Hawaii is a popular snorkeling spot.
The Bay is the leftover remnant of a volcanic cone. Hanauma is a conservation area to help protect the marine life who still reside in the bay. In an effort to better protect the delicate coral and aquatic life, the number of visitors a day is carefully monitored and limited to 1,000.
“Hana” is bay and “uma” is curved in Hawaiian. Therefore, Hanauma means Curved Bay.
